Energy Saving Tips

  • 1. Turn off lights when room is not occupied.

  • 2. Wash only full loads of clothes in cold water.

  • 3. Close drapes or blinds during summer days; open during winter to let sun in.

  • 4. Plug home appliances into power strips and turn power strips off when not in use.

  • 5. Thermostat setting for winter 68° F and summer 78° F.

  • 6. Replace incandescent bulbs with energy-saving compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL) or (LEDs) Light Emitting Diodes.

  • 7. Remember cooking, bathing, laundering and dishwashing product heat and humidity which may make your air conditioner work harder.

  • 8. Ceiling and room fans can help move cool air inside your home and help increase comfort levels.

  • 9. Monitior the use of appliances that give off heat while you are operating your air conditioners - these include lamps, televisions, ovens etc.

  • 10. Consider taking a shower instead of taking a bath; showers on average use 50% less water.

  • 11. For the most efficient operation keep refrigerator and freezer full and minimize the number of times you open the door.

  • 12. When buying new clothes or curling iron, consider one that automatically turns off.

  • 13. Use automatic dryer setting instead of time cycles and do not over dry clothes. Better yet, hand dry and line dry your clothes when possible.
